A day of culture in Paris…
Posted in Paris le
Your Hotel Auteuil Tour-Eiffel is ideally located in one of the most elegant residential areas of Paris. As well as being attractive, this district boasts a wealth of cultural attractions that you’ll have the opportunity to discover with pleasure during a break with family, friends or partner. Here are the ones that your hotel team recommends.
Meet the Impressionists at the Musée Marmottan Monet
Treat yourself to a lovely walk of less than twenty minutes along the elegant and chestnut tree shaded avenues of the 16th arrondissement. It’s the perfect way to get in the mood to visit the former private mansion of Paul Marmottan, now the Musée Marmottan Monet. A noted and knowledgeable art collector, Marmottan bequeathed his home and collections of Italian primitives and classical works to the public. These holdings have been enriched by successive bequests, including that of Claude Monet's son, which resulted in the first public access collection of works by the painter. In this museum, you can admire Monet’s Impression, Sunrise, part of his Rouen Cathedral series, and a large selection of his Water Lilies series, as well as works by Berthe Morisot, Pissaro, Degas, Manet, Renoir, Sysley, Gauguin and more. Remember to book your admission online to avoid queuing.
Contemporary art at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
Don't miss the Fondation Louis Vuitton Foundation in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, about ten minutes by car from the Hotel Auteil Tour Eiffel. Inaugurated in 2014, this audacious creation by the architect Frank Gehry suggests billowing sails of glass that complement the surrounding greenery perfectly. A centre for contemporary art, the Fondation hosts temporary exhibitions as well as art installations, conferences and concerts. The quality and originality of the exhibitions are, of course, the main attraction, but the building itself is well worth seeing. This spring, you can take advantage of the extension until April 3rd of the Morozov exhibition, which brings together for the first time outside Russia the works assembled by the two collector brothers. Many activities, including some for children, are taking place in connection with this exhibition.
The Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine
Although less well known than the previously mentioned museums, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine offers an equally fascinating visit. The modern and carefully designed gallery spaces of this museum of architecture and monumental sculpture invites you to discover more than ten centuries of French architectural heritage. On display are casts, models and archival documents illustrating the evolution of techniques and styles, and the finesse and precision of construction and ornamentation details. Also featured are many temporary exhibitions. A current one is a tribute to Notre-Dame Cathedral and particularly its spire and sculptures. Another is devoted to new architectural solutions to the challenges posed by climate change.
The neighbourhood of the Hotel Auteuil Tour Eiffel offers plenty of attractions for a cultural day out. We advise booking your tickets in advance to save time. Your hotel team will provide you with the information you require to make the most of it all!
