Be dazzled by the golds of Yves Saint-Laurent
Posted in Paris le
Since October 14th, the Yves Saint-Laurent Museum has been celebrating the 60th anniversary of the famous couturier's first fashion show by hosting an exceptional exhibition: GOLD. Les Ors d’Yves Saint-Laurent. Presenting a dazzling array of dresses, jewellery, accessories and archival documents, this exhibition evokes the very essence of the aesthetics and creativity of the great couturier. During your stay at the Hotel Auteuil Tour Eiffel, you can immerse yourself in this experience of beauty and elegance at the museum situated halfway between the Trocadéro and the Champs-Élysées.
Wonderful flamboyance
Taking place in the gorgeous galleries of the Yves Saint-Laurent Museum, the GOLD. Les Ors d'Yves Saint-Laurentanniversary exhibition includes no fewer than 40 haute couture dresses which have been carefully chosen to illustrate the omnipresence of gold in the legendary couturier's creations. Gold sparkles seductively on the fabrics, laces, lamés and brocades on display. It enhances buttons, embroidery, sequins, and leather with its brilliance. Yves Saint-Laurent, who also had a profound appreciation for black, remarked, “Modern black. I always lighten it with gold, on buttons, on belts, on chains”. This essential alliance illuminates sumptuous dresses which have graced the most beautiful celebrities, such as Catherine Deneuve and Zizi Jeanmaire. You can also admire a superb selection of jewels from the personal collections of Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé. These pieces are representative of the discoveries that the two men made during their travels, particularly in Morocco, but also of the creations of the designer Loulou de la Falaise for the fashion house.
Getting to know the great designer
This golden exhibition from the Yves Saint-Laurent collections is also an opportunity to trace the fashion designer’s creative journey. From creation to creation, you follow him in his artistic research, his travels and encounters. From the first golden buttons adorning his pea coats to the sparkling jewelled dress from the 1966 fall-winter collection, you witness the unfolding expression of a personal aesthetic but also of a certain conception of women. The couturier declared, “I like gold, it is a magic colour; for the reflection of a woman, it is the colour of the sun”. You will also discover his passion for travel and, in particular, for the light and aesthetics of Morocco. As a counterpoint to this presentation, the curator of the exhibition, Anna Klossowski, goddaughter of the great couturier and daughter of Loulou de la Falaise, invited the Belgian visual artist Johan Creten to participate. Five of his works show how gold continues to inspire creators through the ages.
Until May 14th, 2023, the GOLD exhibition at the Yves Saint-Laurent Museum is an intimate and dazzling dive into the creativity and spirit of the great couturier. Everything is done to enchant the visitor, from the most passionate fashionista to the complete neophyte. Don’t miss this original and fascinating exhibition during your break at the Hotel Auteuil Tour Eiffel!
